Whisky enthusiasts have a rare opportunity to visit one of Speyside‘s most exclusive distilleries this May, as Tamnavulin opens its doors for a limited time during the Spirit of Speyside festival.
The distillery, which houses what’s billed as the “world’s fastest-growing single malt brand”, is typically closed to the public, making this a coveted opportunity for whisky lovers.

Visitors will experience the complete whisky-making journey from “seed to sip” while enjoying specially selected tastings guided by the distillery’s production team. The experience also offers the unusual chance to purchase bottles directly from the distillery itself.
Limited Tickets Still Available
A small number of tickets remain for the classic Tamnavulin Discovery Tour, which includes a guided tasting paired with chocolates from award-winning Highland Chocolatier, Iain Burnett. The experience is particularly suited for those new to the Tamnavulin range.
The more exclusive Aged and Rare tour, designed for Tamnavulin enthusiasts interested in exploring the aging process and sampling more complex expressions, has already sold out completely.
“I am looking forward to welcoming whisky lovers to Tamnavulin,” said Kirsty Hodge, Blender at Tamnavulin, who personally selected the expressions visitors will sample. “As we are not normally open to visitors this is a rare chance to see our distillery and discover the magic of Tamnavulin. We have some amazing casks waiting to be discovered, so this is an unmissable experience for fans and those new to Tamnavulin to sample some fantastic whiskies.”
Tamnavulin: The Historic Mill on the Hill
Established in 1966 in the village of Tamnavulin, the distillery takes its name from the Gaelic for “Mill on the Hill,” referencing the 16th-century woollen mill that once occupied the site.
After closing in 1995, the distillery was meticulously restored and reopened in 2007. Since then, it has focused on producing the quintessential Speyside style—sweet, smooth, and fruity—often utilizing double cask maturation techniques.
The distillery benefits from Speyside’s temperate microclimate and abundant water sources, which contribute to the whisky’s distinctive character. The region is famous for hosting more than half of Scotland’s malt whisky distilleries.
The remaining tickets for the Tamnavulin Discovery Tour can be purchased through the Spirit of Speyside festival website, but are selling quickly according to organizers.
