Memphis craft distillery Old Dominick will launch its first eight-year-aged bourbon on September 5th, marking a significant milestone for the Tennessee producer that opened its doors in 2017.
Old Dominick 8-Year Reserve Bourbon Debuts at 100 Proof
The new expression represents the distillery’s oldest release to date, bottled at 100 proof and priced at $59.99. The bourbon underwent eight years of aging in new American oak barrels, resulting in what the distillery describes as a “bold, balanced, and sweet” profile.

“We have been setting aside select barrels with the intent to ultimately bottle and serve a masterfully blended bourbon,” says David Valentine, Old Dominick’s Head Distiller. “If someone is looking for a sweet finish with honey and caramel tones, this is the bottle for them.”
The official tasting notes highlight honey, caramel, vanilla, and chocolate flavors. Early reviews from bourbon media have noted the spirit’s intentional sweetness and dessert-like palate.
Old Dominick’s Strategic Choice: Bourbon Over Tennessee Whiskey
Despite sharing the same mash bill as Old Dominick’s Tennessee Whiskey and undergoing the charcoal mellowing process required for Tennessee whiskey classification, the distillery chose to label this release as bourbon. The decision was based on flavor profile rather than production method.
The 8-Year Reserve marks a departure from Old Dominick’s typical high-rye offerings, which initially established the distillery’s reputation in the craft spirits market. Founded on a revived family recipe from the 1800s, the Memphis-based operation has expanded its portfolio to include whiskeys, vodkas, and gins.
The bourbon will be available at Old Dominick’s downtown Memphis tasting room at 305 S. Front Street, select retailers across Tennessee and the Southeast, and online with shipping to 42 states. A special release week runs from September 5-12, featuring guided tours, tastings, and specialty cocktails at the distillery.
This release coincides with Old Dominick’s eighth year of operation, creating a symbolic connection between the bourbon’s age statement and the distillery’s history. The timing underscores the planning required in whiskey production, as these barrels were laid down during the distillery’s inaugural year.
The Memphis craft spirits scene continues to grow, with Old Dominick positioning itself as a key player in the premium aged whiskey category.
