Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ultra has earned recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records as the “World’s lightest 70cl bottle” during its showcase at NYCxDESIGN. The ultra-premium Scotch whisky weighs just 6.3oz (180g) and represents a breakthrough in sustainable luxury packaging.

The exclusive release launches in the North American market on 1st May with a recommended retail price of $1,250. Only 888 bottles have been produced, making Ultra an extraordinarily rare expression of whisky craftsmanship.

Revolutionary Glass Technology Powers Sustainable Innovation

Ultra features patented glass technology developed by Diageo’s design team, reimagining traditional bottle construction for the luxury spirits category. The lighter bottle embodies the future of premium packaging by fusing sustainability with exceptional craftsmanship.

The innovation utilises open-sourced glass patent technology that has inspired commissioned works by contemporary artists. Philadelphia-based glass sculptor Amber Cowan, Brooklyn design studio Objects of Common Interest, and industrial designer Scott Newlin have created unique pieces exploring the patent’s creative possibilities.

The ‘OUT OF THE BLUE: Glass, Craft and the Future of Johnnie Walker Blue Label‘ exhibition runs from 15th-20th May at Cristina Grajales Gallery in Tribeca, New York. The immersive programming explores the brand’s design journey through panels, masterclasses, and artistic collaborations.

Featured programming includes discussions on sustainable luxury design, brand patronage of the arts, and the principles of good design. Industry experts from Diageo, iF Design, ustwo, and other leading organisations will participate in the week-long series.

The exhibition showcases never-before-seen works by street artist Fnnch, designer B-havior, and Gustavo Sousa alongside a visual history of Johnnie Walker‘s design evolution. The display emphasises Ultra’s material innovation through installations highlighting the interplay of light and form.

This launch continues Johnnie Walker’s tradition of boundary-pushing collaborations with artists and designers, following previous partnerships with James Jean and Perfect Moment that exemplify the brand’s innovation legacy in luxury spirits.
