Glenfarclas single malt whisky has launched two expressions in UK airport duty-free stores, marking the iconic distillery’s return to travel retail after several years. The releases include an exclusive 11-year-old expression and the renowned Glenfarclas 105 cask strength whisky.
New Travel Retail Exclusive Whisky
The 11-year-old Glenfarclas, bottled at 46% ABV, represents a new travel retail exclusive offering for the historic distillery. Priced at $67.49 (£49.99) per liter, this natural color, non-chill filtered expression has been selected as World Duty Free’s ‘Malt of the Month’ for September. The official tasting notes describe fresh zesty notes balanced with butterscotch on the nose, with a palate featuring warm spiciness and stewed orchard fruits complemented by toffee.
Alongside the new release, travelers can purchase Glenfarclas 105, the pioneering cask strength whisky bottled at 60% ABV for $104.75 (£77.59) per liter. The official tasting notes highlight chocolate orange, dark toffee sweetness, and coffee beans on the nose, with a dry, assertive palate revealing rich spiciness and sherried fruit.
Historic Speyside Whisky Brand Expands Airport Presence
The whiskies are now available at Avolta’s World Duty Free stores across major UK airports, including Edinburgh, London Heathrow, and London Gatwick. Glenfarclas Distillery Manager Callum Fraser conducted bottle signings and tastings at these locations over the past two weeks.
“Glenfarclas is one of the most admired single malts in the world and we are delighted to be bringing these remarkable expressions to international travellers,” said William Ovens, who heads Global Travel Retail at Ian Macleod Distillers, the newly appointed distributor for Glenfarclas in travel retail.
The travel retail range also includes Glenfarclas 16-year-old, another exclusive expression priced at $108 (£79.99) for 70cl, and the premium Glenfarclas 35-year-old at $1,033 (£765) for 70cl.
Founded in 1865, Glenfarclas remains the oldest family-owned distillery in Speyside, with five generations of the Grant family maintaining traditional production methods, including direct-fired stills and maturation in Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, Spain.
