Glen Moray has released Forbidden Fruit, its first Calvados cask-finished single malt Scotch whisky, now available across the UK. The new expression is the third release in the Speyside distillery’s Xperience Collection, following Phoenix Rising and Twisted Vine.
Forbidden Fruit begins as a single malt aged in bourbon casks before being finished in French oak casks previously used to mature Calvados, France’s historic apple brandy.

The distillery’s team selected the Calvados casks after exploring how the apple brandy’s character would complement Glen Moray’s signature Speyside style.
Official tasting notes from the brand describe the whisky as brimming with “notes of orchard fruits, sweet French pastries and fresh flowers.”
Glen Moray Global Brand Ambassador Iain Allan said: “Cask exploration has been a huge part of the Glen Moray Distillery story for over a century, and Forbidden Fruit is a wonderful new testament to this heritage.”
Allan added: “It is a sweet, spicy and very moreish single malt which we’re sure will be a tempting treat for whisky fans to explore, whether they are connoisseurs or new to single malts.”
The Xperience Collection showcases Glen Moray’s ongoing program of cask experimentation. Phoenix Rising highlighted charred oak maturation, while Twisted Vine explored cognac cask finishing.
Packaging for Forbidden Fruit features a radiant scarlet apple set against Glen Moray’s classic dark blue livery, with golden leaves and a serpent winding through the design.
The Elgin-based distillery has long been recognized for its approachable range of single malts. Glen Moray sits within the portfolio of La Martiniquaise-Bardinet, one of France’s largest spirits groups, which acquired the distillery in 2008.
Glen Moray Forbidden Fruit is bottled at 40% ABV in 70cl bottles at an RRP of $USD (£32). It is available from specialist whisky retailers throughout the UK and in Morrisons stores across Scotland from April.
The launch adds to a growing trend among Scotch whisky producers experimenting with non-traditional cask finishes. Calvados cask maturation remains relatively uncommon in the category, positioning Forbidden Fruit as a distinctive entry in the flavored-cask segment of the single malt market.
