Independent scotch whisky brand Clydebuilt has unveiled six new small batch single malts. The announcement comes just one month after parent company Ardgowan Distillery officially opened its doors to the public.
The collection features three single cask bottlings and three small batch releases, all sourced from Scotland’s Speyside region and matured in Spanish sherry casks.
Clydebuilt Whisky Range Honors Maritime Heritage
The Clydebuilt name pays homage to the River Clyde’s shipbuilding legacy, when the term became synonymous with quality craftsmanship. Ardgowan Distillery, located in Inverkip on the Firth of Clyde, launched the boutique label in 2019 while construction of its own facilities continued.
Distillery Manager Laura Davies, who trained under the late Dr. Jim Swan, developed the new releases. “Our new Single Malts underwent maturation on-site at Ardgowan in premium European oak Sherry casks,” Davies said. “All aged for 12 years, each delivers distinctive character owed to both the distillate profile and the maturation history. Most importantly, they are all bottled with an age statement, at a minimum of 46% ABV, without chill filtration and without artificial colouring. These are undoubtedly Single Malts deserving of the Clydebuilt name.”
The standard releases include a 12-year-old Sherry Cask Matured bottled at 46% ABV and a 100 Proof version at 57.1% ABV. A special Official Opening Day Release commemorates the distillery’s June 20 opening at 59.5% ABV.
New Clydebuilt Whisky Single Casks Showcase Sherry Diversity
The three single cask offerings demonstrate different sherry maturation profiles. The Pedro Ximénez cask yielded 352 bottles at 58.5% ABV, while the Oloroso cask produced 342 bottles at 59.0% ABV. The rarest offering comes from a Manzanilla cask, producing just 335 bottles at 61.1% ABV.
According to official tasting notes, the Manzanilla cask imparts lighter maritime characteristics, distinguishing it from the richer profiles of the Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso matured whiskies. All expressions are bottled without chill filtration or artificial coloring.
Ardgowan Distillery filled its first cask with its own spirit last month after eight years of planning and construction. The facility recently appointed Barbara Campbell as Visitor Centre Manager, with tours expected to begin soon.
The new Clydebuilt releases will be available through specialist retailers in the UK, Austria, Belgium, Sweden, and Germany.
The expansion demonstrates Ardgowan’s ambitions in the competitive Scotch whisky market while maintaining its focus on traditional production methods and regional heritage. Each bottle reinforces the Clydebuilt promise of craftsmanship that made the term famous along the River Clyde.
