Think platinum blonde hair, a beauty spot, and ruby red lips. Have you guessed yet?
The five-star hotel, St. Regis Venice, has created a special cocktail inspired by Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe portfolios as this year’s Venice Film Festival gets underway.
The ‘Silver Dreams’ Cocktail At St. Regis Venice
The ‘Silver Dreams’ cocktail draws inspiration from Warhol’s infamous “Shots Marilyns” series from 1964. These images have long been associated with both Warhol and Monroe’s legacies, 37 and 62 years after their respective deaths.
Vodka, Andy Warhol’s favorite spirit, forms the base of the ‘Silver Dreams’ cocktail. A touch of floral St. Germain adds sweetness, reflecting the everlasting public affection for Marilyn Monroe. Popcorn syrup is added as an ode to cinema. Finally, a splash of Marilyn’s favorite drink, champagne, tops off the curated concoction.
Crafted by St. Regis Venice’s Bar Manager, Ludwig Negri, and Director of Food & Beverage, Facundo Gallegos, the cocktail seeks to emulate the timeless nature of both Monroe herself and Warhol’s famous screen prints that persist in pop culture even today.
“In the world of pop culture, few figures are as iconic as Andy Warhol and Marilyn Monroe,” says Gallegos. “We were inspired by Warhol’s vision, who saw Marilyn as a symbol of timeless beauty and captivating complexity. Even deconstructed to just elements – the sweep of blonde hair, the red lips, the beauty mark – she’s instantly recognisable. We wanted to translate this into a drink.”
The Bespoke ‘Marilyn Glass’
The ‘Silver Dreams’ is presented in a bespoke glass designed by the St. Regis team and Mariapia Bellis of Berengo Studios. It was then crafted at the studio founded by Adriano Berengo.
According to the brand press release: “The design echoes Warhol’s silkscreen technique, with the Marilyn image seemingly replicated and reimagined in a kaleidoscope of colours. The key features of her face – the hair, the mouth, the beauty mark – are subtly referenced in bold, abstract shapes, reinforcing the movie star’s enduring impact.”
