Basil Hayden 10 Year Is Back, And Here To Stay

Basil Hayden, the bourbon brand founded by legendary Master Distiller, Booker Noe, has announced the return of its 10 Year Old expression, complete with a new look. And it gets better. After previously being available in limited quantities on an annual basis, Basil Hayden 10 Year Old is permanently joining the brand’s core range of expressions. 

The brand is now under the stewardship of Booker’s son, Fred, a 7th Generation Beam family Master Distiller. 

The Origins Of The Basil Hayden 10 Year Old 

The Basil Hayden 10 Year Old was first released in December 2018, and quickly became a holiday favorite for many bourbon lovers. Since then, it has been a limited annual release that is highly sought after by fans of the expression. 

Due to the overwhelming popularity of the expression, it is now being made available year-round. 

The Same Whiskey 

Staying true to the classic recipe, Basil Hayden 10 Year Old is distilled from the brand’s signature high-rye mash bill and aged for 10 years in virgin American oak barrels. The resulting bourbon is, according to a brand press release, “light-flavored enough to examine on the palate without any lingering harshness.” 

The rich caramel and vanilla notes in the bourbon can be best tasted when the whiskey is served neat or on the rocks. 

Official tasting notes for the bourbon are as follows: 

“AROMA: Big oak, hints of char, vanilla and rye. 

“TASTE: Oak balanced by caramel sweetness and rye spice. 

“FINISH: Lightly smoky with a subtle hint of char.”

New Packaging 

In celebration of Basil Hayden 10 Year Old’s return, the expression has been given new packaging, that features a polished dark gray label with embossed gold font. The packaging exudes a feeling of luxurious warmth, mirroring the taste of the bourbon. The iconic Basil Hayden monogrammed belt has been maintained.
