Louisville-based Angel’s Envy Distillery has unveiled its 13th annual Cask Strength Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels. In an innovative twist, the brand has chosen to blend its traditional ruby port wine finish with bourbon finished in tawny port wine barrels to create extra complexity and depth.

The Angel’s Envy 13th Annual Cask Strength Bourbon will be available from the beginning of December at a suggested retail price of $229.99. Only 23,196 bottles have been produced. You can purchase your bottle from selected retailers, at angelsenvy.com, and at the Angel’s Envy Distillery in downtown Lousiville

The 13th Annual Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bourbon

Every year Angel’s Envy Distillery adds a new release to its Cask Strength program, a longstanding tradition in which hand-selected barrels undergo an extending finishing process before being bottled at cask strength. Each release is unique and showcases the depth of flavor that can be achieved through cask finishing.

This particular bourbon was blended by Master Distiller, Owen Martin, and his team. The bourbon from the tawny port barrels, with its mellow finish, blended seamlessly with Angel’s Envy’s traditional port-finished bourbon. The brand also utilized a continuous aging solera system (traditionally used in sherry making) for the first time in its history, ensuring that the resulting whiskey had a consistent flavor profile.

Bottled at 59.4% ABV, the Cask Strength Bourbon carries notes of brown sugar, butterscotch, stone fruit, pear, and spice on the nose. The palate offers apple crumble, buttery pie crust, dark chocolate, oak, and cinnamon honey. The long-lasting finish is one of oak spice, rich port, and vibrant fruits.

“I’m excited to continue evolving what fans can expect from the Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Program in new yet familiar ways,” said Owen Martin, Master Distiller. “This year’s Cask Strength Bourbon not only honors the familiar flavors our fans love but also adds another layer of complexity with the Tawny finish. It’s a great example of our vision for innovation, staying true to our roots while striving to provide a fresh perspective on our cherished whiskeys and American Whiskey overall.”
