Ad Gefrin Launches Tácnbora Sauternes Cask Finish Whisky

Northumbrian distillery Ad Gefrin has unveiled the third expression in its Tácnbora cask finish series, a Sauternes Cask Finish. The limited edition English whisky is available now, with only 1,942 bottles released for sale.

This new release uses the distillery’s cask-strength Tácnbora blend as its base.

The whisky was matured for nine months in ex-Sauternes oak casks, which previously held the sweet wine from the Graves region of Bordeaux.

It is bottled at 58.2% ABV.

The 700ml expression is non-chill filtered, has natural color, and is priced at £57.

Official notes from the brand describe a nose of “honeyed apricots, cedar, orange peel, vanilla, and spice.”

The palate delivers flavors of “toffee, almond, stone fruits, dried apricots, honey, and oak.”

A finish of “coconut, white pepper, pine, and vanilla” follows.

The Sauternes casks were chosen to impart the distinctive richness and sweetness of the French dessert wine. This creates a bridge between Northumbria’s rugged landscape and the sunlit vineyards of Bordeaux.

The base whisky is the same one used for the brand’s previous Tácnbora Cognac Cask Finish.

As reported by Great Drams, Ad Gefrin co-founder Eileen Ferguson commented: “A glass of Sauternes with dessert at the end of a meal takes me back to many lovely holidays in France, breathing in the delightful aromas and tasting fabulous fresh food from local markets.”

Ferguson added: “Nothing surpasses this luscious, sweet wine that elegantly pairs with so many flavours.”

The Tácnbora Sauternes Cask Finish is available directly from the Ad Gefrin distillery and its online shop.
