Douglas Laing & Co. has unveiled Scallywag Noir, a limited-edition blended malt scotch whisky that pushes the award-winning Scallywag range into darker territory. The new whisky boasts Pedro Ximénez sherry cask finishing at natural cask strength, delivering an exploration of whisky’s shadowy side.

Previous Scallywag Editions include an orange wine cask finish, a 10 Year Old, and The Chocolate Edition

Douglas Laing Scallywag Noir

Scallywag Noir gets its distinctive character through predominant finishing in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks sourced from Jerez in Spain’s Andalusian region. This finishing process imparts what Douglas Laing describes as “deep velvety sweetness, dark fruits, and warming spices” to create a complex whisky experience.

The expression bottles at 52.8% ABV without chill-filtration or added coloring, maintaining the bold, unfiltered approach that defines the Scallywag range. According to official tasting notes, the nose delivers “a symphony of deep velvety sweetness, dark fruits, and warming spices,” while the palate reveals “whispers of dark chocolate, spiced oak, and sherry-soaked raisins.” The finish extends with “notes of molasses, ripe figs, and black cherries.”

“Scallywag has always been about rich, sherried indulgence, and with Noir, we’ve taken this philosophy to the next level,” said Scott Morrison, Senior Brand Manager. “Pedro Ximénez casks lend a deep, dark intensity to the spirit, creating a whisky that is as luxurious as it is complex. Noir is an invitation to venture into the shadows and discover the richer, darker side of Scallywag.”

Updated Luxury Packaging

The new release also features upgraded packaging with a premium gold-foiled carton and bespoke-shaped front label, signaling Douglas Laing’s intention to position Noir as a luxury offering within the Scallywag portfolio.

Pricing & Availability

The limited-edition expression launches at select retailers, whisky specialists, and online with a suggested retail price of £65. The release continues Douglas Laing’s strategy of expanding its core ranges with premium limited editions while maintaining the accessible pricing that has driven Scallywag’s market success.
