Old Forester 1910 Extra Old is back. The fan-favorite whiskey has made a heroic return after nearly three years on hiatus, much to the delight of bourbon lovers. First released in 2022, Old Forester 1910 Extra Old undergoes an “extra-long double-barreling process” which unlocks a deep, rich profile with distinct notes of caramel.

Part of the 117 Series, Old Forester 1910 Extra Old will be available at the Old Forester Distilling Company in Louisville starting at 10 am EST on January 22nd, 2025. Shipping can be provided to KY, ND, NE, and D.C. from shop.oldforester.com. The MSRP is $64.99 per 375ml bottle.

The Creation of Old Forester 1910 Extra Old

Old Forester’s iconic 1910 expression is a special bottling that commemorates a fire that blazed at 117 Main Street Distillery on October 22nd, 1910. A batch of mature whisky, ready for bottling, was re-barreled into new barrels as a result of fire damage to the original ones. This process transformed the whisky, giving rise to a rich, full-bodied expression that earned its own identity as Old Fine Whisky.

For Extra Old, the brand took the 1910 whisky and left it to mature further in secondary barrels for 18 months, allowing the deeper influence of heavy charring to develop a more robust and distinctive character.

“Our 117 Series is focused on innovation and gives us a chance to blend our longstanding values with a contemporary vision. This expression showcases the exceptional quality that can come from this experimentation,” Master Taster Melissa Rift said. “Whisky lovers will be able to taste the history captured in this bottle.”

Tasting Notes

Courtesy of Old Forester:

Aroma: On the nose, this expression showcases notes of dark brown sugar, sugared pecan and rich chocolate.
Taste: The palate brings with it a medium-bodied expression with a depth of warmth that swiftly transitions from sweet notes of intense caramel to the spice of dried tobacco.
Finish: A balanced ending that is gently rounded out with notes of green apple and raw walnut.”
