A Chattanooga Blend Steeped in History
The anniversary blend draws from three distinct solera barrels housed in the distillery’s dedicated Solera Room. Each barrel contains whiskey that symbolizes a different chapter in the company’s story. Every year, on Chattanooga’s anniversary, Tim Piersant samples the whiskey from each barrel and, from there, experiments with blend makeup aiming to present the best of each whisky in the annual Founder’s Anniversary Blend.
“For those who’ve been following the evolution of Founder’s over the last four years, this year’s blend should offer a more nostalgia-driven flavor profile – highlighting more traditional notes coming from our ‘1816’ solera barrel,” said Piersant. “For that reason, I wouldn’t be surprised if this release becomes a favorite amongst our most diehard fans.”
The blend comprises 23% from the “1816” solera barrel, representing Chattanooga’s first post-Prohibition whiskey launched in 2012. This component contributes classic woody and lightly spicy bourbon character.
The largest portion (58%) comes from “Barrel 91,” symbolizing the present. This barrel contains the company’s signature Tennessee High Malt recipe, developed after two years of experimentation and built on three specialty roasted and toasted malted grains.
The remaining 19% is drawn from the ornately designed “Infinity” barrel, representing future innovations with a blend of malt and rye malt whiskeys from both Chattanooga’s Experimental and Riverfront Distilleries.
Ever-Evolving Flavor Profile
Grant McCracken, Founding Distiller and CPO, emphasized the unique nature of each solera barrel: “Those who make it to our Founder’s Party each year know firsthand how different each solera barrel is from one another. From the traditional essence of ‘1816’ to the high-malt heritage of ’91’ to the expressive and ever-changing ‘Infinity,’ each barrel provides Tim a range of options for blending.”
The 2025 release features flavor notes of red rope licorice, grilled peaches, brown sugar, cherry cola, and toasted marshmallow.
After the April 11 distillery release, the whiskey will roll out to select states including Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin. Limited quantities will also be available online at Seelbachs.com in May.
Chattanooga Whiskey began its journey in 2011 by challenging laws to become the first company to distill whiskey in Chattanooga in 100 years. The Experimental Distillery, which hosts over 50,000 visitors annually, stands as one of the only standalone experimental distilleries in the country.
