Glencadam 10 Year Old

BUY NOW: $44

Now for something lighter. Glencadam is a distillery I discovered later in my whisky journey, but it has become a reliable favorite for any season. Known for its lighter, more approachable style, Glencadam 10 Year Old is a standout—both for its affordability as an age-stated whisky and for its delicate, inviting character.

This whisky is ideal for those who appreciate balance and subtlety while still enjoying a touch of complexity. If you’ve explored ranges like Jura or Glenmorangie, Glencadam is a natural next step. The 10 Year Old offers a beautifully crafted flavor profile of fresh apples, gentle caramel, and subtle hints of vanilla and mint that linger on the edges of the palate. A truly delightful whisky.

Meikle Tòir The Sherry One

BUY NOW: $52

Returning to peat and sherry, this whisky might just be my pick for Whisky of the Year. When these releases first launched, I was skeptical about their direction, but I’ve learned an important lesson: let the whisky speak for itself. And this one speaks volumes.

Crafted by the highly regarded Billy Walker at The Glenallachie Distillery, this is a peated Speyside single malt at just five years old, yet it delivers exceptional quality with nearly 50% ABV in every bottle. The result is nothing short of outstanding.

For seasoned whisky enthusiasts who’ve explored every Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Bunnahabhain, or Bowmore, this is a game-changer. When I reviewed it on Whisky Wednesday, I dubbed it ‘The Islay Killer’—and so far, it has lived up to the title.

Four Roses Single Barrel

BUY NOW: $40

Now for some American flair—it’s bourbon time! With so much choice in the bourbon world, and much of it remarkably affordable, my go-to remains Four Roses Single Barrel. Bottled at 50% ABV, it delivers all the rich, buttery, caramel-laden flavors you’d hope for in a top-tier bourbon

While single barrels can sometimes vary in flavor, Four Roses consistently nails it across their recipes, ensuring every bottle meets their high standards. Even if you’ve tried it before, it’s always worth revisiting—it never fails to impress. A standout bourbon, time and time again.

Glen Scotia Victoriana

BUY NOW: $88

This whisky starts off strong, with bold characteristics on paper, yet delivers remarkable balance and complexity. If peated whisky isn’t to your taste, this might not be the best choice. However, for those who enjoy peaty expressions, it’s a standout option worth exploring.

Bottled at an impressive 54.2% ABV, it combines heavily peated stocks, intense sherry maturation, and heavily charred American oak casks. Despite these robust elements, the whisky surprises with its harmony of flavors, complexity, and a slow-building, surging power that unfolds beautifully from the first sip.

Campbeltown whiskies are notoriously challenging to find, but Glen Scotia makes this category more accessible with this exceptional release.

Balblair 15 Year Old

BUY NOW: $91

In my opinion, this is one of the most underrated sherry-cask whiskies in the world. After spending twelve years in American oak, it undergoes a three-year finish in Oloroso sherry casks, resulting in a remarkable unpeated Highland whisky. Bursting with tropical fruit notes and the quintessential sherry-driven Christmas spices.

Bottled at 46% ABV, with no added coloring and no chill filtration, this whisky showcases the exceptional quality Balblair Distillery consistently delivers. Offering some of the finest Highland whiskies available, Balblair excels not just in craftsmanship but also in value, confidently standing toe-to-toe with some of the industry’s best.

Redbreast 15 Year Old

BUY NOW: $92

Let’s head over to Ireland—it wouldn’t be a complete list without mentioning Irish whiskey, and Redbreast stands out as one of the finest producers of single pot still whiskeys.

The Redbreast 15 Year Old is, quite simply, one of the best age-stated whiskies I’ve ever tasted. It achieves an exceptional balance of gentle spice, vibrant tropical fruits, and a buttery richness, thanks to its time in top-quality ex-bourbon casks. This is a whisky to savor and truly “chew on.”

While there are pricier options in the Redbreast range, the 15 Year Old offers unmatched value for its incredible flavor, texture, and sheer brilliance. If it hasn’t made its way into your collection yet, it’s time to change that.
