Tasting Notes:

About:
A 22 year old rum put together in a rather unusual way from some old storage samples that were decanted many decades ago. The samples were then placed into a a recycled rum cask and aged for a further 22 years. Truly unique.
Appearance:
Light Sherry
Nose:
I smell sunshine! Brown sugars, caramel, vanilla pod, tonka bean, milk chocolate – these occupy the rich and decadent parts of where this writ takes you. It then moves into this beautifully tangy, refreshing style of sour fruit. Sour apple, charred pineapple, and a little bit of lychee. Earthier and slightly savoury elements start to ish there way through now – hazelnuts, Sherry soaked cherries, mint, but overall we have this wonderful sense of dessert driven sweetness, dominated in part b6 freshly touched crème brûlée with little sprigs of mint on top with caramelised hazelnuts.
Palate:
Initial heat from the higher alcohol, but the parts ways to leave you greeted with this ridiculous peanuts and milk chocolate driven style of rum. These earthy flavours really come through on the palate, we’re dealIng with thyme, a little sweet basil, a to h of red wine vinegar, even some Indian stale cooking spices are making their way through on this. Things such as garam marsala, turmeric, cardamom, a little bay leaf, as well as ginger and gentian root,
Finish:
So much rich caramel, hazelnut, chocolate spread, grilled pineapple, burnt brown sugar, tangy green apple. The sweetness really swings back around to give you the ultimate move around of flavour. Caramelised banana is the final big hit of flavour and that refreshing hit of mint swinging back around.
Comments:
What a flavour riot! I’ve never experienced a rum that takes such a journey of sweet into savoury, and then back around to huge sweetness again. All of this backed up by some funky Caribbean rum notes, verging into slightly industrial, but just enough

Rums Similar To The Last Drop 22 Year Old Rum?

Comparing this rum to anything else on the market is nearly impossible due to its truly unique creation. It’s crafted from rums sourced across renowned production regions—Guyana, Brazil, Trinidad, Jamaica, St. Lucia, and beyond. The journey of these rums is exceptional: they were originally decanted into glass bottles, marked with ‘CMS’ in honor of Christine Margaret Souther, the longest-serving member of staff at the Main Rum Company, and held from aging for years. In December 2000, these samples were finally transferred into a recycled rum cask and allowed to mature, creating an intriguing, sweet-and-savory blend that defies standard comparisons.

Availability & Exclusivity?

The origins of this rum are highly unusual, given its additional aging from glass-bottled samples, each potentially aged for an unknown period beforehand. This method resulted in added evaporation and limited stock right from the start. The result? An exceptionally rare release of only 136 bottles from a single cask, making it one of the rarest and most exclusive rums available globally.
