Who Will Enjoy Table Whisky From The Leith Export Company?
Table Whisky should have everyone wanting to try it. Not only is single grain whisky still a very understated style of scotch whisky, but it can also be a lot more versatile than malt whisky, as well as being a little more affordable, too. If you’re into trying new things then already you should have this in a basket somewhere. The Leith Export Company of the Port of Leith Distillery has picked up good acclaim for their other spirits, and this single grain scotch from North British Distillery is no different. A solid combination of bourbon and sherry cask matured grain whisky can go a long way, and as the review above points out, it is rather delicious! Whilst we wait for the first single malt release from Port of Leith, Table Whisky provides a fantastic alternative.
Is This Comparable To Other Single Grain Whiskies?
In some ways yes, in some ways no. Yes in the sense that it is a classically sweet, easy-drinking style of whisky that should be a perfect start to any tasting, a wonderful cocktail ingredient, or something to house on the table that anyone can enjoy. No in a way, but only in the way that it has some sherry-matured stock running around in it. That is a little unusual for grain whisky overall but will add some very good depth to the overall flavors and complexity of this affordable, well-presented whisky.
Grain whiskies are becoming a little rarer, certainly from Scottish producers. Hedonism from Compass Box is now a limited release per year, Haig Club is more expensive than this release and has less flavor, and with the rise of blended whisky demand across the world, grain could become a little harder to get in official bottles.
What’s The Best Cocktail Recipe For Table Whisky?
A whisky smash would be the best way to go with this! Grab yourself 2oz of Table Whisky, a lemon sliced into four quarters, 1oz of sugar syrup, ice, and a shaker. Feel free to add some mint or blackberries to the mix, maybe even strawberries!
In the shaker place your whisky, lemon slices, sugar syrup, and ice. Shake until the vessel begins to condense. Once you’re ready to pour, find your favorite glass and choose to serve this up or over ice. That’s a personal choice. But all of these flavors should work very well together.
