Review: Coachbuilt 18 Year Old Williams Racing Edition

The Coachbuilt 18 Year Old Williams Racing Edition is not only a tasty whisky, but also a celebration of Jenson Button's relationship with Williams Racing.

Tasting Notes:

About:
A limited edition, 18 year old blended whisky, put together by the minds at Coachbuilt whisky – Jenson Button and George Koutsakis. A limited edition batch of only 3,000 bottles that takes you on quite a journey of Scotland.
Appearance:
Apple Juice
Nose:
Almond pastries, smoked salt, hot honey, warm apple pie, cinnamon, a soft coastal sea breeze aroma, and then it goes in a huge Christmas direction of mulberry wine and winter spices, very winter punch in a bowl.
Palate:
Creamy toffee and fudge at the start. A little bite of grain whisky that is needed to cut through the sweetness. But with that grain note comes butterscotch, cinnamon, creme brulee, spiced toffee apples and orange with more cinnamon. A very comforting and warming style of whisky.
Finish:
Long and chewy with strawberry, cinnamon, salt, liquorice, soft woody spices and a long hit of dwelling vanilla.
Comments:
This is rather tasty, and offers much more on the palate than many other blends of the same age does. It’s a must if you’re an Formula One fan, with the Jenson Button and the Williams F1 connection.

How Is Coachbuilt Different From Other Blends?

It’s certainly not unusual for you to pay $300 a bottle for something with an 18 year old age statement, but Coachbuilt tackles this a little differently. Blends of this price tag tend to not be as applicable to people these days, we’re always looking got something a little different. They also tend to all be bottled at 40% ABV, this is already a step above at 48% ABV, and has more complexity than many of its rivals.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen the influence of scotch whisky and F1 racing. We all remember the days of McLaren Johnnie Walker, and even further back with Malboro sponsors and Martini Porsche racing cars. The Coachbuilt 18 Year Old Williams Racing Edition is not only a tasty whisky, but also a celebration of Jenson Button’s relationship with Williams Racing. It was Williams that gave Button his big break in Formula One in the 2000 season. At the time, Button was the youngest-ever F1 driver.

Jenson went on to race for teams such as Benetton, Renault, and McLaren. In 2009, with Brawn GP, he won an amazing victory in the F1 World Drivers Championship, clinching the title in the Japanese Grand Prix.

Now retired from Formula One racing (but currently competing in the World Endurance Championship), Button is a Senior Advisor for Williams, making the team the perfect partner for Coachbuilt Whisky.

Williams has revealed its driver lineup for 2024 as Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz, who currently races for Ferrari. The future looks bright for Williams, and the Coachbuilt team hopes that the coming Coachbuilt x Williams Racing releases will chronicle the team’s return to the front of the grid.

The Future Of Coachbuilt

Coachbuilt has some very cool limited editions on the way for you F1 fans, each will commemorate special moments in Williams racing history. The brand also teamed up with Rolls-Royce London for a limited edition release of just 300 bottles. So if you’re into cars and whisky, not at the same time, this brand has such a bright future for you.
