The Origins Of The Basil Hayden 10 Year Old
The Basil Hayden brand was founded by legendary Master Distiller, Booker Noe. Booker was a 6th generation Beam family Master Distiller, of Jim Beam fame.
Booker Noe’s vision for Basil Hayden was to create a bourbon that would appeal to both seasoned bourbon drinkers and newcomers by offering a lighter, more refined take on traditional bourbon. As the brand website promises: “You never forget your first sip of Basil Hayden.”
The Basil Hayden 10 Year Old first hit the shelves in December 2018, and very quickly became a popular expression. Due to the aging requirements, the bourbon was released annually in very limited quantities.
However, much to the delight of Basil Hayden fans, the expression is now available year-round.
How Is The Basil Hayden 10 Year Old Made?
Basil Hayden 10 Year Old is distilled from the brand’s high-rye mash bill. It is then matured for a decade in virgin American charred oak barrels. This American oak maturation imbues the whiskey with flavors of caramel and vanilla.
Bottled at 40% ABV, the bourbon is “light-flavored enough to examine on the palate without any lingering harshness,” according to an earlier brand press release.
