Tasting Notes:

About:
A blend of 7-year and 17-year-aged bourbons finished in French brandy and cognac casks. It is bottled at 50.5% ABV and priced at $99.99.
Appearance:
A warm orange-amber hue is in the glass, showcasing moderate legs and thick viscosity.
Nose:
Bananas and cherries tease on the nose here, playing in harmony alongside some vibrant vanilla and a helping of oak. One also finds bubble gum, bread pudding, and a dash of molasses.
Palate:
This opens with a nice pop of vanilla and cherries, carrying a nice smack of oak along with it. Further palate exploration brings forth some berry considerations alongside a nice helping of creme brulee, brown sugar, bread pudding, and gingerbread.
Finish:
The finish here is popping with brown sugar and berries, fading out in a moderate amount of time.
Comments:
Yellowstone Limited Edition Kentucky Straight Bourbon (2024) plays well to its strengths, particularly the double cask finishing. You can appreciate the nuances of flavor moment by moment in what feels like a well-thought-out expression—nicely done.

The Beam family has long and deep roots in all things Kentucky bourbon. Not all people with this name, however, work at the Jim Beam distillery. Others, such as brothers Stephen and Paul Beam, who are seventh-generation descendants of Jacob Beam, are off on their own journey, being the proud distillers behind Limestone Branch Distillery.

The Beam brothers laid down the roots for Limestone in 2010, and by far, the most popular label under their portfolio is Yellowstone Bourbon. Several iterations of this expression exist, including the highly sought-after Yellowstone Limited Edition Kentucky Straight Bourbon, which varies each year by age statements in the bottle and cask finishing types.

What’s in the bottle

The bourbon being reviewed here, Yellowstone Limited Edition Kentucky Straight Bourbon (2024), is the 9th year since this variant first came to market. For this year, it is extra aged, featuring 7-year and 17-year aged bourbons, and is Limestone Branch Master Distiller Stephen Beam’s first double finish in French brandy and cognac casks.

“The 2024 expression of Yellowstone Limited Edition represents my natural progression of experimenting with special finishes over the years,” said Stephen Beam at the time of its announcement. “Now, finished bourbons have become sought after by fans who want to push the flavor profile. I love experimenting and exploring new opportunities, and using a double finish with brandy and cognac casks created a more complex and nuanced bourbon, opening a whole new experience for consumers to enjoy.”

Bottled at 101 proof (50.5% ABV), an allocation of 10,000 cases (3-in) of Yellowstone Limited Edition are arriving on store shelves in September at a minimum suggested price of $99.99 per 750mL bottle.
