Whiskey Review: 15 Stars Timeless Reserve Fine-Aged Bourbon Aged 13 Years

We review 15 Stars Timeless Reserve Fine-Aged Bourbon Aged 13 Years, a blend of 13 and 15-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskeys bottled at 103 proof.

Tasting Notes:

About:
A bourbon blend of 13 and 15-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskeys bottled at 103 proof and priced at $279.
Appearance:
This holds a classic 10+ year Kentucky bourbon amber color in glass, supported with moderate legs and viscosity.
Nose:
A beautiful spread of caramel and vanilla drifts out as the aromatics are explored. Some oak, a good amount of green apple, a bit of wet leather, maple, and black pepper join the mix.
Palate:
The palate of this bourbon is about as dialed in as one could hope for, showcasing timeless vanilla, caramel, and oak considerations. Joining these are helpings of creme brulee, maple, pears, a little touch of cinnamon, cardamom, and a kiss of milk chocolate.
Finish:
This ends as cleanly and well-formed as the rest of the tasting experience, delivering the bourbon you want as it fades away every so gently.
Comments:
15 Stars Timeless Reserve Fine-Aged Bourbon Aged 13 Years is one to hold up as a timeless classic for a bourbon of this age range. There’s nothing negative to say here – get yourself a bottle to drink and a bottle to hold before it sells out.

Editor’s Note: We received a review sample of this whiskey from the brand. However, in accordance with our editorial policies, this has not influenced the outcome of our review in any way.

15 Stars, founded by father and son whiskey blenders Rick and Ricky Johnson, has made a name since coming online in 2022. The brand has received over 100 of the world’s most coveted whiskey awards, including several “best in class” awards. Operations are managed out of Bardstown, Kentucky, where 15 Stars works with a partner distillery (likely Bardstown Bourbon Co.) to distill over a dozen different whiskey mash bills, some of which include unique specialty heirloom corn (black, red, white, and blue) that the family grows for its gourmet specialty popcorn business, Black Jewell Popcorn.

Additionally, 15 Stars maintains a stock of sourced aged whiskeys, released periodically as unique offerings. The brand’s name pays homage to Kentucky as the 15th state, with Kentucky’s recognition on the second US flag with 15 stars and 15 stripes, which was authorized by President George Washington in 1795.

What’s in the bottle

The whiskey being reviewed today, 15 Stars Timeless Reserve Fine-Aged Bourbon Aged 13 Years, is an updated version of the brand’s debut Timeless Reserve expression back in 2022. Drawing upon the previously mentioned stock of sourced aged whiskeys, it is a blend of 13- and 15-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskeys bottled at 103 proof that boasts an age statement of 13 years.

“Timeless Reserve was our debut expression when 15 Stars was first available on shelves,” said Ricky Johnson when this bourbon was announced. “It has remained a favorite of ours over the last couple of years and we are so excited for this opportunity to revisit the expression with this updated age statement.”

15 Stars Timeless Reserve is priced at $279.
