Famed scotch whisky brand, Royal Salute, recently unveiled the new 62 Gun Salute Collection. Joining the existing Royal Salute 62 Gun Salute Original Reserve are two new expressions: The American Oak Reserve and The Peated Reserve. The trio of blended scotch whiskies have been bottled in honor of the 62 Gun Salute ceremony, a ceremonial salute conducted on state occasions at the Tower of London. Such occasions include His Majesty Charles III’s birthday and state visits.

The Royal Salute 62 Gun Salute Collection is a celebration of the brand’s heritage; it was created in celebration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953. As such, the brand has always been entwined with the Royal family.

The Royal Salute 62 Gun Salute Collection

Master Blender Sandy Hyslop, carefully curated The American Oak Reserve and The Peated Reserve to join ranks with The Original Reserve. According to a brand press release: “The American Oak Reserve has a vibrancy that reflects the intensity of the gun salute spectacle, while The Peated Reserve captures the subtle smokiness that drifts over the City of London at the conclusion of the salute. Each whisky in the award-winning collection offers a powerful flavour experience, with a remarkably long finish.”

Each whisky is presented in a stunning decanter, each with its own distinctive hue (red, blue, and green), as well as a lacquered presentation box. The Royal Salute logo, featuring the very guns used in the salute, adorns the front of the box in gold foiling.

Both the Royal Salute 62 Gun Salute Original Reserve ($3,000) and The American Reserve ($3,300) will now been rolled out across selected retailers, such as The Whisky Exchange. The Peated Reserve is currently available exclusively in duty-free airports. It will soon be rolled out globally, also retailing for $3,300.

Speaking about the new collection, Sandy Hyslop said: “As the crowning jewel in Royal Salute’s portfolio, the crafting process behind this collection was lengthy and meticulous until I was absolutely confident we had blends representative of an authentic 62 Gun Salute ceremony. The collection’s flavour profile is beautifully complex and rounded, connecting all the senses to create a lasting taste experience that reflects the significance of the occasion.”

These expressions include the ‘Treasures Collection’ which, according to the press release is a “one-of-a-kind whisky library featuring some of the most precious Royal Salute blends released since its creation in 1953, discovered through an immersive tasting experience.” In addition, never-before-seen private cask offerings will be on offer to sample, making each experience bespoke to the guests.

The new space was carefully crafted in collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces, an independent charity that cares for the Tower of London – one of the most iconic buildings in the capital. The oldest part of the castle, The White Tower, has stood since 1078.

The crowning jewel (if you will) of the collection is the three 62 Gun Salute expressions, which will be housed in a duo of cabinets that were once home to the Cullinan and the Koh-i-Noor diamonds. These diamonds, amongst the largest in the world, are icons of the British Crown Jewels.

Guests can attend the Royal Salute Chamber by invitation only. The experience includes:

  • Private tour of the Crown Jewels
  • A sensory exploration of bespoke fragrances crafted by Master Perfumer, Barnabé Fillion, inspired by the 62 Gun Salute Collection
  • A comparative tasting of the 62 Gun Salute Collection
  • Access to the Royal Salute ‘Treasures Collection’

Paul-André Vacheron, Global Marketing Director of Royal Salute at Chivas Brothers, said: “It’s not every day that a Scotch originally created for a Queen finds a private home in the iconic Tower of London. And just as royal residences have their private chambers, it is fitting that Royal Salute now has its own Chamber to truly immerse guests in our unique royal history and heritage, as well as providing a once-in-a-lifetime, bespoke tasting experience with our ‘Treasures Collection’.

“We hope to enchant guests while showcasing our passion for high-aged Scotch whisky and bring to life our commitment to celebrating the past, while protecting it for generations to come.”
