The Glencairn Glass, the go-to glass for whisky drinkers made by Glencairn Crystal, has launched an anthology of crime fiction short stories to raise money for charity. The Last Dram contains 16 different tales from up-and-coming crime fiction authors, all of whom participated in the Glencairn Glass Crime Short Story competition over the last three years.
All profits from the sale of The Last Dram will support Maggie’s – a cancer care charity that provides free support and care in centers across the UK and online. The book is available as an e-book (£5.99) and in print (£9.99). Also available is a limited-edition set containing two Glencairn Glasses (£25.99). Purchase your copy here.
Creating The Last Dram
The Glencairn Glass has long supported budding crime writers through its sponsorship and the McIlvanney and Bloody Scotland Debut crime-writing literary awards since 2020. In 2021, the brand launched the Glencairn Glass Crime Short Story competition, giving writers both experienced and novice the chance to showcase their work.
Now, a collection of the most thrilling stories from the competition has been collated into an anthology called The Last Dram. Students from Stirling University worked in collaboration with The Glencairn Glass to handpick the stories and design the layout of the book.
The Last Dram was edited by Heather J. Fitt, a celebrated Scottish crime writer who attended this year’s Bloody Scotland International Crime Writing Festival in Stirling.
The Grisly Stories
The Last Dram serves up a grim collection of tales where murder, revenge, and retribution take center stage. Among the stories is a disturbing confession from a food blogger who took justice into her own hands against an abusive husband. A jaded tour guide on the Isle of Skye directs disrespectful tourists toward deadly misfortune, while a 1928 Glasgow police station becomes the backdrop for a series of brutal murders that detectives struggle to solve. These are just a few of the unsettling narratives that make The Last Dram an unforgettable read.
Raising Money For A Very Special Charity
Kirsty Nicholson, Design and Marketing Manager at Glencairn Crystal said: “We’ve been blown away by the outstanding quality of the stories that have been entered into our Glencairn Glass Crime Short Story Competition over the last few years. We wanted to showcase these gripping reads for people in a collection to support and celebrate the talented authors and the world of Scottish crime fiction, whilst raising money for Maggie’s – a very special charity. A fine dram of whisky in a Glencairn Glass is the perfect accompaniment to settling down with a good book over the winter months; ‘The Last Dram’ also provides the perfect Christmas gift for those friends and relatives who are difficult to buy for.”
