Catch of the Day: Talisker Skye For Only £25.50 At Amazon (45% off RRP)

The award-winning Talisker Skye single malt whisky, renowned for its smoky character and connection to the Isle of Skye, is currently on a flash sale at Amazon for just £25.50. Considering its usual price hovers around £50, this deal seems almost too good to be true. But should you rush to grab a bottle? Let’s dive in and find out.

What Is Talisker Skye

Talisker Skye, a single malt whisky from the renowned Talisker distillery on the Isle of Skye, is the more affordable sibling to the popular Talisker 10 Year Old, but don’t let its lack of an age statement fool you.

Given it has no age statement the whisky could be aged anywhere from 3 years and up, offering a unique blend crafted by the master blender without being restricted by age.

The result is a well-rounded and balanced whisky, similar to a conductor orchestrating a symphony rather than just a single instrument. The award-winning Glenglassaugh Sandend is a prime example of how exceptional a whisky without an age statement can be.

What Awards Has Talisker Skye Won?

Talisker Skye boasts a collection of awards, including Silver at The Scotch Whisky Masters (2015), Gold at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (2017), as well as a Bronze Medal at the World Whiskies Awards (2018).

Who Will Like The Talisker Skye

How do you know if this bottle is the right fit for your palate? We turned to resident expert Phil Dwyer for his insights on who might find this dram particularly appealing

“Talisker Skye is the perfect product to try if you’re unsure of where you stand on on peated whisky.

It is designed as Talisker’s entry-level bottle to see how you may enjoy their signature style of West Coast flavour.

Whilst being moderately smoky, enough to both smell and taste, it has approachable sweetness that is sometimes forgotten about when we mention Talisker. Matured mostly in ex-bourbon casks, you have these warm caramel and salty peanut flavours that back up and balance their signature smokiness.”

Who Won’t Like The Talisker Skye

If you’re a fan of all things non-chillfiltered and natural colour, this probably isn’t the whisky for you, if you’re not even  pleased with the idea of trying it then there are plenty of other options available. Or, if you know peat isn’t on your list, then it would be best to avoid the style as a whole.

Tasting Notes

Jeff Whisky, one of our in house review team and YouTuber, provided us with his tasting notes:

Nose

Described as a smoother, more round expression of Talisker, this certainly comes across on the nose as it feels dialled down and subdued with more vanilla and green lime. However you can certainly tell the Skye is a Talisker release from the distinct aroma of soft coast smoke and peppery spice.

Taste

The taste follows through with the rich maritime salty smoke which has now been doused with a good measure of caramel and cream. The earthy smoke is fantastically paired with the sweetness of this dram and is pleasantly balanced.

One of my favourite elements of the 10 year old is the punchy cracked black peppercorn finish. This is a bit more like salt and pepper shakers have been knocked into the glass.
