Single Barrel Neat
The classic way, or Jack’s way. As every bottle in the Single Barrel collection is as unique as the barrel it was born in, Jack Daniel’s recommends taking time to savor and get to know the bottle you’ve selected. No two barrels offer the same flavor profile and tasting experience, some offer a deeper oaky note, while others impart sweeter caramel flavors.
The signature expression, Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select is bottled at 94 proof (47% ABV), layering subtle notes of caramel and spice with bright fruit notes and sweet aromatics. Any Single Barrel expression can be enjoyed neat, especially the cask strength Barrel Proof edition bottled from the barrel at full proof, varying between 125-140 proof (62.5-70% ABV), taking Jack’s iconic vanilla and toasted oak flavors to bold new levels.
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ oz Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Whiskey
Method:
- Pour yourself a glass of any expression then give yourself time to relax and savor.

Single Barrel Old Fashioned
The classic Old Fashioned remains one of the most popular and best-selling cocktails in the world – and has been the official cocktail of the city of Louisville, Kentucky since 2015. Mixing whiskey with bitters and sugar syrups, the Old Fashioned is traditionally served over ice.
Jack Daniel’s recommends using a proper ice cube mold for larger cubes, which slows down melting and causes less dilution of your drink. The brand’s Old Fashioned recipe suggests using Single Barrel Select, but any expression could be used:
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Whiskey
- ½ oz Simple syrup
- Angostura bitters
- Orange peel
Method:
- Combine the whiskey, simple syrup, and bitters into a cocktail mixing glass.
- ½ fill the glass with ice, then stir for 20-30 seconds.
- Strain into the tumbler over fresh ice.
- Garnish with orange peel.
Single Barrel Whisky Smash
Smooth and refreshing, the classic Whisky Smash is a simple cocktail made with fresh lemon and mint leaves. The Whisky Smash was first included in the 1887 edition of ‘The Bartenders Guide’ by Jerry Thomas, but variations were likely made for decades prior – with related cocktails the Mint Julep and Whiskey Sour already well established.
Any Single Barrel expression would work, but for a fuller depth and intensity of flavour the travel and duty-free exclusive, Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel 100 Proof (50% ABV), also known as ‘Silver Select’ in some markets is an ideal choice:
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Whiskey
- Mint leaves
- ½ oz Lemon juice
- ½ oz Simple syrup
- Crushed ice
Method:
- ½ fill a cocktail shaker with cubed ice.
- Add all ingredients and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
- 2/3 fill a highball glass with crushed ice.
- Strain the liquid into the glass.
- Add mint sprig to garnish.
Single Barrel Rye Sazerac
One for rye whiskey fans, this cocktail combines Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Rye expression with the classic Sazerac cocktail. First launched in 2015, and distilled using Jack Daniel’s first new mash recipe since 1866, the Single Barrel Rye expression marries the brand’s classic smoothness with a unique 70% rye grain bill (also including 18% corn and 12% barley). With complex flavors of ripe fruit alongside light toasted oak notes, Single Barrel Rye is a rich whiskey with hints of spice and a pleasant lingering finish.
The Sazerac cocktail originated in New Orleans in the mid-19th century, with the vibrant atmosphere inspiring some creative drinking, thanks to an abundance of unique spices, fruits, and unusual alcohol passing through the city. This JD Rye Sazerac is a whiskey-forward cocktail with a delicate absinthe finish, with the brand’s recipe below:
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Rye
- Peychauds bitters
- Angostura bitters
- Absinthe
Method:
- Rinse the glass with the absinthe, add crushed ice, and set it aside.
- ½ fill a cocktail mixing glass with cubed ice.
- Add all ingredients and stir for 10 seconds.
- Discard the ice and any excess absinthe from the prepared glass.
- Strain the liquid into the glass.
- Add the lemon peel to garnish.
