Tomatin Adds Another Ancient Scotch Single Malt To Its Inventory

Scotland’s Tomatin distillery is a single malt whisky producer known for, among things, the ability to offer up some pretty old expressions for premium retail sales. Most of the time this focuses upon their Warehouse 6 Collection which, to date, has had releases from 1971 and 1972. Joining this now is a single cask offering from 1975.
The Tomatin 1975 Warehouse 6 Collection Scotch whisky, according to those behind it, was laid down back in late 1975 as cask number 35834, a Spanish Oloroso sherry butt. It laid quietly for some 43 years in the distillery’s Warehouse 6, resting “on antique wooden rails above cool earthen floor and stacked single level, in a traditional dunnage” storage style. Bottled recently at 46.5% ABV, just 300 bottles have been produced.

“I’m so pleased to announce the release of The 1975 Warehouse 6 Collection,” said Stephen Bremner, Managing Director of Tomatin, in a prepared statement. “These limited-edition expressions from the Warehouse 6 collection enjoy the perfect atmosphere during maturation, providing the flawless environment for exquisite whisky to come to life in all its glory.”

As it stands now this particular Scotch is set to price at £2,400, or close to $3,200 USD. The whisky comes encased in a hand-blown, Glencairn Crystal decanter within a case fitted with a unique opening mechanism, featuring two rose gold metal buttons on the sides. This is accompanied with glasses decorated with solid copper bands, a solid copper stopper and a numbered certificate detailing the story of the spirit.

Limited official tasting notes suggest “a perfect harmony of tropical and dried fruits, dark chocolate and warm spicy notes balanced with the complex background aromas created by decades of slow oxidation in its unique warehouse locale before a long and elegant finish.”
