Timorous Beastie 21-Year-Old Surfaces With A Big Sherry Cask Influence

Independent Scotch whisky bottler Douglas Laing is once again digging into its blended malt whisky stocks to unveil another variant from its Timorous Beastie line up. Whereas the most recent expression that debuted just a few months back was a limited edition, 40-year-old, what you have this time around is a 21-year-old offering with a “big sherry influence.”

The new Timorous Beastie 21-Year-Old, according to Douglas Laing, is limited edition like its older sibling, with only 2,718 bottles being made available. While there’s no specific mention of how said sherry influence actually plays out, it should nonetheless appeal to those who like the nuances of that style. It is both natural colored and non-chill filtered.

Timorous Beastie 21 Years Old

“Hot on the heels of Timorous Beastie 40 Years Old, we’re proud to reveal Timorous Beastie Sherry Edition, an incredibly rich and fruity dram that shows great maturity and complexity in ode to its 21 long years of maturation,” said Chris Leggat, commercial director at Douglas Laing, in a prepared statement.

Official tasting notes from Douglas Laing for this 21-year-old release are below for your consideration.

  • Nose: Wonderfully sweet – warming to Oloroso, barley, honey and spices plus soft macerated summer fruit
  • Palate: As spiced as “the original” but now detect grist, honey and raisins enhanced by crunched demerara sugar
  • Finish: Gently warming peppery spices to the fore – and now cocoa, vanilla and burnt meringue show through too
