This marks the sixth annual “Chocolate” bottling from the Scallywag brand.
A note from the whisky maker explains that the original Scallywag, a small batch bottling within Douglas Laing’s “Remarkable Regional Malts” range, launched in 2013. It’s made using only Speyside single cask single malts from the region.

This sixth Chocolate Series blends Douglas Laing’s most cocoa-forward Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherry casks, which brings about a “striking natural burnt sienna color,” the whisky blender states.
With flavors of “velvety dark chocolate, rich red berries and buttery caramels,” the distiller’s notes show this full-bodied Scotch to clock in at 48% ABV without coloring or chill-filtration.
The new expression’s packaging features a hand-drawn illustration from Douglas Laing’s Head of Creative Claire Coetzee, along with a bronze foil detailing.
Scott Morrison, brand manager, said, “This special bottling is certainly one that we have a lot of fun with each year as we strive for chocolate perfection. It’s been great to watch the series grow in popularity and demand over the years, going from 300 bottles in 2018 to our now 4,200 bottles sixth annual release.”
