R&B Distillers out of Scotland are a busy lot these days. They recently opened the Isle of Raasay distillery on a tiny island situated between the Isle of Skye and the Scottish mainland. They’ve also been at work on a new distillery in the Borders region of this whisky producing nation, and it is under the Tweeddale brand tied to it they’ve debuted a 27 year old expression.
The Tweeddale Silent Character 27-Year-Old, according to those behind it, is a vatting of two ex-bourbon casks drawn from the Cambus single grain distillery. This facility, founded in 1836, was once believed to be one of the better grain whiskies for blending in its day. It stopped producing whisky in 1993, becoming a so-called silent distillery, so hence the name of this bottling.
Plans call for less than 500 bottles of Tweeddale Silent Character to be made available worldwide. Limited official tasting notes are below for your consideration.
- Nose: Fresh oaky, with peach pastries, lemon and lime, followed by a honey, toffee. A sweet and rich nose.
- Palate: Hints of pear, mixed in with a spicy cognac.
- Finish: slight grassy and a mineral structure.
