The Isle of Arran distillery, since its founding 20 years ago, has been laying down casks of Scotch whisky for quiet aging. It has now pulled its oldest expression to date for retail release later this month, an 18 year old single malt set to price around £73 (around $115 USD).Isle of Arran’s 18 year old bottling is the final in a trilogy, including last year’s 17 year old release, which led up to the current offering. The 46% ABV whisky was distilled without chill filtration and is unpeated, having been aged in sherry casks.

READ THE STORY“This is a very special bottling for us,” said James MacTaggart, Master Distiller at the Isle of Arran Distillery, in a statement, “not only being the most mature Arran Malt yet but as the first release in our our twentieth year. It represents the very best of our whisky, with the depth of aroma and flavour for which Arran Malts have become known around the world.”
9,000 bottles are set for release, according to Isle of Arran. Official tasting notes for it follow, courtesy of the distillery.

Nose: Baked peaches with honey and toasted almonds. Sherry cask charring and subtle spice.
Palate: Waxy and coating with warmth of crystallised ginger and sweetness of crème brulee and caramelised brown sugar. Water uncovers floral notes, macadamia nuts and Seville orange marmalade.
Finish: Hazelnuts and nougat mingle with lightly toasted brioche and toffee apples.
