Scotch whisky distillery The Dalmore’s Master Distiller Richard Paterson is considered among the elite in his field, with a masterful talent for creating high end bottlings sought after by high end collectors. He recently closed out celebrating 50 years in the whisky industry, with word being two high end offerings produced under his watch have netted his distillery some very serous cold cash.

Paterson, during his time at The Dalmore, has produced many a popular expression. Two of his most exclusive are The Dalmore 50 and The Dalmore Paterson Collection. The former of these two, the 50-year-old, was first matured in American white oak, Oloroso sherry and port casks before being finished in rare champagne casks from Domaine Henri Giraud. Only 50 of them were made available worldwide, each housed in a special crystal decanter and costing £50,000, or over $66,000 USD a bottle. All of them, each prepared to order, have now sold out, netting a nice grand total of slightly over $3.3 million USD.

Also on the sell out list is the one of a kind Paterson Collection. This 12 bottle set has been on the market for sometime, first debuting in mid-2013. When we last wrote about it in early 2015 it was priced at £987,500, or about $1.3 million USD. It is said this collection, consisting of whiskies from between 1926 up to the 1990s, finally netted their asking price earlier this year to an unnamed young Chinese collector.

While these bottle sales have been occurring, Paterson has also been traveling the world to showcase a selection of The Dalmore’s more pricey expressions.

“To share with them a whisky which defines my working career has been an extremely rewarding experience,” said Paterson in a prepared statement. “Showcasing the champagne-finished The Dalmore 50 at each of these events has been a fitting way to mark these celebrations while showcasing our ability to innovate in both maturation and cask curation.”

With all 50 bottles now sold and the sale of The Paterson Collection, which is truly a distillation of my life in the industry, this has drawn a perfect close to what has been a truly exceptional year in my life.”
