Google + A Good Glass Of Scotch = Fun Times Touring Virtual Distilleries

Don't quite have the funds yet to get over to Scotland to visit distilleries? New virtual Google tours could very well be the next best thing, with a good glass of Scotch in hand, of course.

There was a time when, if you wanted to tour some of the remote Scottish distilleries, that you had to actually travel to Scotland to take them in. The world of Google looks to be changing that, however, as spirits giant Diageo has just unveiled virtual tours of four of its single malt operations, done up all fancy courtesy of Google Business View.

The four distilleries in question are Cardhu, The Singleton of Glen Ord, Talisker and Lagavulin. Viewers, whether on laptops or tablets, can take free 360˚ explorations of these locations, according to Diageo, “from the coast of Kildalton to the Black Isle encouraging people to discover the stories behind these world-renowned brands regardless of whether they are able to travel there in person.”

I spent a few minutes playing around with the distillery views through Google Maps and I have to say it is pretty cool. While it doesn’t quite replace visiting them in person, a good glass of Scotch and your laptop in hand can sub for the next best thing until you have enough money saved in your piggy bank to get there on a plane.
