Glenfiddich Spirit Of A Nation Whisky A Special Breed

SOAN-product-page-News-Feature-imageWhisky distilling isn’t always just about making a profit alone. Sometimes it is also about supporting a cause, which is the case of the very limited edition Glenfiddich Spirt Of a Nation 29 year old Scotch. Produced by the renowned Speyside whisky maker, only 250 bottles are available.

According to Glenfiddich Spirit of a Nation was matured for all those years in a single refill sherry cask before being finished in a special ex-bourbon cask. This latter cask was covered in messages written on it because of a tour around the United Kingdom in support of a special Antarctica expedition held recently. The team at the heart of this trek across that cold land consisted of former soldiers wounded in the line of duty that were raising money for Walking With The Wounded, a charity that helps wounded servicemen and women “lead extraordinary lives.”

The flavor profile of this whisky is, on the nose, rich and oaky with notes of dried fruit and spices. Its taste expresses, per the distiller’s notes, “sweet vanilla oak notes with a hint of cinnamon spice, polished leather and beeswax.” It finishes long, “with warm notes of subtle vanilla sweetness.”

As for pricing, if you can still get a bottle at this point, expect to pay at least $1,500, not including shipping and other costs if you live here in the United States.

Cask Fraud Addressed in Scottish Parliament

The potential impacts of cask investment fraud on the scotch whisky industry was discussed in the Scottish Parliament in April 2024, hopefully paving the way for more regulation within the industry.
