Benromach Cask Strength Vintage 2008 Batch 1, as it is being called, is bottled at a cask strength of 57.9% ABV. It was laid down back in 2008 and bottled earlier this year. Benromach Cask Strength in general replaces Benromach 100° Proof, with this new expression offering “subtle variations” on the former bottling “with small strength and natural color variations reflecting different batches.”
“By offering the opportunity to own and enjoy batch releases,” said Keith Cruickshank, Benromach Distillery Manager, in a prepared statement, “we are able to further showcase the expertise of our distilling team while determining the right time to bottle each batch to take full advantage of the remarkable single malt whiskies we produce. We believe this expression will allow Benromach drinkers to understand more about the provenance of the whisky they are drinking.”

As it stands now plans call for this whisky to be released worldwide, at a price of around €70 (about $80 USD), except in the US and China. These two nations will instead get more market exclusive offerings later this year. You’ll find some official tasting notes for Vintage 2008 below for your consideration.
The golden amber dram has notes of cracked black pepper, fruits and milk chocolate, with a delicate smoky edge on the palate. The whisky has a long, deep finish with subtle smokiness and bonfire embers.
