Tasting Notes:

About:
40% ABV. Aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. $37.99 per 750ml bottle.
Appearance:
This is a light golden straw yellow in color. Tiny droplets form on the side of the glass that turn into thin long legs.
Nose:
First impressions are those of a breakfast pastry, I think of apple danishes in particular, with apple, yeast, and mild baking spice. There are some subtle notes of sweet red fruit and chocolate.
Palate:
I get caramel and apple up front, this is certainly on the sweet end of the whiskey spectrum. This doesn’t seem to have any transition from the front of the palate to the finish. The finish has a sulphury quality with white pepper. Nothing unpleasant about it, but pretty straight forward
Finish:
Comments:
This is a sweeter Irish whiskey that drinks rather nicely. One of the better whiskeys I’ve seen released by a famous person entering the world of spirits. Certainly worth trying if you enjoy sweeter Irish whiskey, and you get the bonus of contributing money to Ukraine.

SLÁINTE! Pronounced Slahn-cha, is an Irish and Scottish gaelic phrase that translates to health. It is a common toasting phrase with the sentiment of, “to your good health.” It is also now an Irish whiskey brand. Sláinte Irish Whiskey is a recent to market Irish whiskey brand with founders including Richard Davies and Actor/Director Liev Schreiber.

This whiskey, from the information available, is produced and aged in Ireland within County Louth. It is aged in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and ex-sherry casks. It is bottled at 40% alcohol by volume. And probably the most interesting bit, every bottle sold provides a dollar to BlueCheck.

BlueCheck is a humanitarian organization focused on assisting communities in Ukraine dealing with the tragic results of the war with Russia.  BlueCheck was founded in March 2022 by Schreiber. They are focused on providing non-government-organizations (NGO) with financial support to fulfill humanitarian aid within Ukraine. Partnerships like one with the Inso-Lviv National Symphony Orchestra have allowed for increased access to resources for the places most affected by the war. The orchestra has turned their music hall into a center for storage and distribution of provisions and medical supplies.

While I appreciate the gesture of the one dollar a bottle to these efforts, it is the attention it draws to the organization and the larger issue that really stands out.

So if you choose to check out Sláinte Irish Whiskey, raise a glass to the health of both those close to you and those in Ukraine. Sláinte!
