The Dalmore Distillery Select Series Is Unveiled

The Dalmore Distillery, located in the Scottish Highlands, has unveiled The Distillery Select series. The series comprises three single malt scotches bottled from hand-selected casks, and aims to showcase how various casks can “enhance an element of The Dalmore’s signature house style.” 

Let’s take a look at each bottle in the new Dalmore Distillery Select series. 

The Dalmore Distillery Select 2009 Vintage Sherry Cask Finish 

The first bottle in the series is a 2009 vintage Dalmore, bottled at 15 years of age and 52.8% ABV. The whisky was finished in sherry casks sourced from González Byass in Spain, a long-time partner of The Dalmore. 

Only 2,736 bottles have been produced and they will retail for £300 (~$395). 

Tasting Notes: 

Aroma: Manuka honey, a hint of cinnamon, and banana bread
Tasting Notes: Orchard fruits, Golden Delicious apples, poached pears intertwined with
Ogen melons
Finishing Notes: Sultanas, liquorice, mandarin orange and a touch of cacao”

The Dalmore Distillery Select 2007 Amarone and Port Cask Finishes 

This 17 Year Old Dalmore whisky was distilled in 2007 and finished in two different casks: Italian Amarone wine casks and Portuguese port casks. The whisky’s interaction with both wine casks has encouraged a rich and complex expression bursting with fruit. 

Only 918 bottles have been produced at 45.8% ABV. The 17 Year Old will retail for £1,000 (~$1,300). 

Tasting Notes: 

Aroma: Warm summer fruits, raspberry myrtle, succulent Victoria plums and maraschino
cherry
Tasting Notes: Rich forest fruits interlaced with vanilla
Finishing Notes: Panna cotta, floral notes and a hint of violet”

The Dalmore Distillery Select 2000 Vintage Calvados Finish

The final, and oldest, whisky in the Distillery Select series is a 24 Year Old distilled in 2000. Initial maturation in American white oak was followed by a finishing period in Vintage Calvados casks from the House of Drouin in France. 

Bottled at 50.3% ABV, this release is limited to just 383 bottles and retails for £5,000 (~$6,500). 

Tasting Notes: 

Aroma: A dusting of sugared almonds, rich apple and plums
Tasting Notes: Red berries, freshly crushed apple and pears
Finishing Notes: Liquorice, antique wood spice and a touch of balsamic”

“Each of these limited edition whiskies was picked out by our whisky makers for the way the casks have complemented or enhanced The Dalmore’s signature house style,” says Brand Director, Rod Gillies. “These hidden gems from our dunnage warehouses will be available directly from The Dalmore – either from our boutiques, at the distillery, or online for a limited period in the UK.”
