Tamdhu Distillery has unveiled The Dedication Collection, a series of single malt scotches that celebrate the rarest of Tamdhu’s oldest and rarest stocks. The first release in the collection is a very rare Tamdhu 43 Year Old.

Only 100 bottles of the 43 Year Old have been made available with an RSP of £13,500 (~$17,700).

The Tamdhu 43 Year Old Dedication Collection

The Tamdhu 43 Year Old has been aged in three different Oloroso sherry seasoned oak casks, ensuring that the sherry influence was carried across the entirety of its over four-decade maturation period.

Upon bottling, the 43 Year Old was transferred into 100 bespoke, hand-blown Victorian style decanters. Each decanter is presented in a hand-crafted wooden and brushed metal box. The bottle sits on top of a metal plinth inside the box, that features an engraving of Distillery Manager, Sandy McIntyre’s signature, as well as a unique number out of 100.

McIntyre said: “At Tamdhu, our whisky is the ultimate artistic expression. So to launch this landmark collection we didn’t want to get side-tracked by gimmicks. Or look away from our whisky. Because it’s there, in the spirit itself, you see our craft, passion and dedication.”

Those who purchase the Tamdhu 43 Year Old will also be invited to stay at an exclusive estate close to the Tamdhu Distillery and enjoy rare whiskies with Sandy McIntyre. They will also tour the dunnage warehouse and see casks that may, in the future, become part of the Dedication Collection.

Photomicrography With Peter Woitschikowski

In celebration of the launch of the 43 Year Old, Tamdhu teamed up with photomicrographer, Peter Woitschikowski, to capture magnified and high-resolution shots of the whisky and its packaging.

In addition to this, Woitschikowski also used microphotography to capture the essence of the Tamdhu’s tasting notes. The brand press release describes the process as follows: “To capture the one-of-a-kind images, Peter crystalised the whisky with natural extracts inspired by the tasting notes of orange, coffee and lemon, using these as the canvas for the Tamdhu photographed at 43 times magnification – a microscope spin for every year the whisky has matured in the sherry oak casks.”

Capturing these images was a labor of love for Peter, who spent weeks experimenting in preparation for the project. He said: “You never know how the images will come out. And every picture is different and unique. Tamdhu was a special case because the whisky is so pure. So perfect. We had to add extracts to create the crystallization required. The results are quite beautiful, I believe.”

Tasting Notes

Tasting notes courtesy of Tamdhu:

“On the nose, the single malt offers rich sherry, treacle toffee, dried coriander, berries, citrus and dried spice. The first sip reveals deep sherry, orange, blackcurrant, molasses, chocolate coconut and hints of coffee on the palate, followed by a long sherry oak finish, with hints of lemon and dried berries.”

The Dedication Collection

The Dedication Collection will be an eight-part series that will feature some of the oldest and rarest Tamdhu whiskies in existence. Four of the whiskies will be released domestically, and four will be exclusive to Global Travel Retail.

A 46 Year Old Tamdhu from the collection is currently available as a travel retail exclusive. Only 100 are available. Find out more here
