Garrison Brothers Cowboy Bourbon
Garrison Brothers has announced the release of a special 10th-anniversary edition of Cowboy Bourbon on September 21st, 2024.
The bourbon clocks in at 140.2 proof and has been aged for at least eight years, resulting in a bold and complex expression, helped along by the warm and humid Texas climate.
In celebration of the 10-year anniversary of Cowboy Bourbon, this expression is housed in a custom-designed black box with a gold interior. Around the neck of each bottle hangs a 2024 medallion, commemorating this celebratory year.
Dan Garrison, the Founder, said: “This 10th anniversary release of Garrison Brothers Cowboy Bourbon is more than just a bottle—it’s a tribute to the legacy of America’s national spirit and Garrison Brothers’ most coveted bourbon. It’s a nod to years of hard work and dedication blessed by the unmatched Texas terroir, all in the hands of our distiller, Donnis Todd.”
According to a brand press release, “the mouthfeel is coating, bold and fantastic with tasting notes of dried fruit, warm pecan wood, brown sugar, hot Saigon Cinnamon, raisins, licorice, vanilla, melted chocolate fudge, and white chocolate dipped strawberries.”
Only 10,000 bottles have been produced with the first 1,000 bottles being released exclusively at the release event at the Garrison Brothers Distillery in Hye, Texas. The remaining bottles will be available via selected bars, retailers, and restaurants from October 2024, priced at $279.99.
Redemption Sur Lee Straight Rye Whiskey
Adding to the Speciality Series, Redemption Whiskey has announced the release of the Redemption Sur Lee Straight Rye Whiskey.
The whiskey is inspired by the French winemaking process, Sur Lie, which is used to create a deeper, richer, and more complex profile.
To create the Sur Lee Straight Rye Whiskey, the whiskey makers at Redemption started with their classic rye mash bill containing 95% rye. The ‘lees’ (the sediment left behind on the stills during distillation, typically removed) are added back to the whiskey prior to barreling. The barrels are then periodically rotated to ensure maximum interaction between the lees and the whiskey. According to a brand press release, “The “Sur Lee” method intensifies the rye’s complexity to further enhance and develop the whiskey.”
As a result, Redemption Sur Lee has notes of “toasted marshmallow, maple, and nutmeg, balanced with a lingering spicy finish.”
Alan Kennedy, Redemption’s Master Blender, commented: “Redemption Sur Lee Straight Rye Whiskey represents a bold step forward in rye whiskey innovation. By integrating the Sur Lie method, we’ve crafted a whiskey that not only honors our classic pre-Prohibition rye mash bill but also pushes the boundaries of what rye can be. I’m excited to offer fans a whiskey that truly redefines the category with its unexpected take on aging.”
Redemption Sur Lee is bottled at 47% ABV and retailers for $59.99 via ReserveBar and in selected stores across the US.
Kentucky Peerless Bourbon Whiskey Finished In Cognac Casks
Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. has unveiled a new bourbon finished in cognac barrels.
The Kentucky Peerless Cognac Barrel Finished Bourbon began as Peerless Small Batch bourbon, which was then decanted into barrels that previously held premium cognac. The bourbon has taken on the characteristics of the cognac, resulting in a sweet, floral, spicy, and nutty spirit.
According to a brand press release, drinkers can expect: “A flavor profile with an added layer of complexity, introducing flavors of dried fruit, raisins, figs, citrus, honey, and subtle oakiness. The bourbon’s inherent vanilla, caramel, and spice are complemented by the delicate sweetness and floral notes of the cognac barrel. On the nose, you will find aromas of ripe fruit, vanilla, caramel, and a slight nuttiness or spice from the cognac influence.”
Bottled at 107 proof, the new release is extremely limited and will be available only in Kentucky from September 7th. Kentucky Peerless has been tight-lipped on the price thus far, and encourages fans to visit the distillery on September 7th to find out more.
Fifth Generation Distiller and President, Carson Taylor, said: “We have taken our barrel-finishing program to the next level with a cognac barrel-finished bourbon. This expression has been in the works, and the barrels, for many years and has truly exceeded our expectations. I am extremely proud of our team for balancing our Bourbon with the cognac barrel properties in the way that they have. It was perfectly executed.”
Pursuit United Double Oaked Rye Whiskey
Last but not least, Pursuit Spirits, home of the Bourbon Pursuit podcast, has launched Pursuit United Double Oaked Rye.
Starting life as Pursuit Spirits’ award-winning Pursuit United Rye, the whiskey undergoes a secondary maturation using both lightly toasted and heavily charred French oak staves. The double oak maturation process was born of experimentations with over 40 types of oak. The whiskey makers were not happy until they had found the perfect match for Pursuit United Rye.
The resulting rye carries aromas of “fresh baked cherry pie, cranberry, cardamom, and nutmeg on the nose.” On the palate, “flavors of buttered brown sugar crumbles, tart cherries, and a berry medley jam, while the finish lingers with hints of cherry pipe tobacco, charred oak, and a touch of sweet habanero pepper.”
“This Double Oaked Rye is the result of relentless experimentation and our unwavering commitment to quality,” said Ryan Cecil, Co-Founder and Master Blender at Pursuit Spirits. “For this product, we wanted to push the boundaries of what rye whiskey can be and compete with the best older whiskeys out there. At 108 proof, it delivers a bold yet balanced experience that we believe will captivate both rye enthusiasts and those new to the category. This limited release truly embodies our pursuit of whiskey excellence.”
Pursuit Double Oaked Rye will be available at the Pursuit Spirits Distillery tasting room from Thursday, August 29th for an RRP of $69.99. The new whiskey will also be rolled out to Seelbach’s in the coming weeks.
