Chattanooga Whiskey has unveiled the newest addition to its Bottled In Bond Vintage Series. The new straight bourbon whiskey was distilled at Chattanooga’s Riverfront Distillery barreled from January 2020 through to June of the same year.

The aim of the Bottled in Bond Vintage Series from Chattanooga is “to create a new, seasonally-inspired blend for each 6-month distilling “season” from the variety of bourbon recipes distilled within the vintage period.”

As such, the Spring 2020 expression contains three distinct versions of Chattanooga’s wheated bourbon recipe. Barley varietals also vary with each mash bill. According to a brand press release: “These malted grains include Tennessee-grown malted wheat, honey malted barley, and a small amount of cherrywood smoked malted barley.”

Founding Distiller, Grant McCracken, said: “Each distilling season, our entire grain-to-glass production team comes together to develop our newest Bottled in Bond vintage. Rather than solely using our signature “Barrel 91″ recipe, the team gathers every unique mash bill that was distilled in the 6-month season and develops a blend to reflect the character of that time period.”

The new expression is extremely limited, made from just 40 barrels divided into four batches. Now available at the Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Distillery and on supermarket shelves in selected states, the Spring 202 has an RRP of $52.99. Limited quantities are also available via Seelbachs.

Embers Peated Whiskey was distilled from peated malted barley, offering:  “a rich, smoky, and luxurious indulgence. Perfect for a night by the campfire or entertaining friends,” according to a brand press release.

Master Distiller Jason Senor commented: “We love the versatility of this peated whiskey. It really lends itself to imbibing in a variety of different ways—neat, on the rocks, or in our Peat and Heat cocktail, a whiskey lover can’t go wrong with this gem.”

Tasting notes for the new whiskey include smokiness, a hint of savory bacon, vanilla, and a lasting finish.

Bottled at 86 proof, Shelter Distilling Embers Peated Whiskey can be purchased at the distillery in Mammoth Lakes, and at the new Montrose, CO location. Californians can also purchase the whiskey online at shelterdistilling.com for $89.99.

Old Forester has released the latest expression in its 117 Series, a rum cask finish.

To create the expression, the bourbon whiskey was finished in rum casks that had matured rum for a minimum of four years. The resulting whiskey boasts notes of “rich tropical fruit, coconut, and custard”.

Assistant Master Distiller, Calebd Trigo, said: “By finishing our signature bourbon for approximately six months in these rum barrels, we have complimented and accentuated the sweet aromatics of Old Forester with hints of brown sugar and molasses, emboldening its rich character. Rum Finish provides a sweet addition to the series that whiskey aficionados – and rum drinkers – will love.”

Bottled at 86 proof, the Old Forester 117 Series Rum Finish will retail for $59.99 per 375ml bottle. Shipping is available for D.C., KY, NE, NH, and ND only. You can also purchase the bottle via the Old Forester website

The 117 Series debuted in 2021, and features a number of limited editions including the 1910 Extra Old and High Angel’s Share.
