Eight years since the beloved Laphroaig 18 Year Old was discontinued the distillery has announced that the iconic expression will be making a return to its core range, selling for £180 (~$230).
The Laphroaig 18 Year Old was, for a long time, the flagship expression from the Islay distillery. Its removal from the distillery’s lineup in 2016 was a loss to the many fans who appreciated the malt’s depth of character and sweet smoke. As such, the announcement of its return has excited many an Islay whisky fan.
The whisky is matured exclusively in ex-bourbon American oak barrels, resulting in a “distinctive smoky character of Laphroaig with notes of intense vanilla and sweet ripe fruits, alongside signature notes of woody peat smoke coming through on the finish.”
Teddy Joseph, Global Brand Ambassador at Laphroaig, said of the 18 Year Old’s return: “The Laphroaig 18-Year-Old was a much-loved whisky, and so after nearly ten years we’re excited to bring back this age statement.
“Friends can expect to enjoy Laphroaig’s iconic sweet smokiness, a manifestation of our boldness of spirit, as well as freshly cut leather and sunbaked seaweed on the nose and a fruity yet spicy blend of orange, honey, ginger and tobacco on the palate.”The Laphroaig 18 Year Old is available now via the Laphroaig website for £180 (~$230). Shipping to the USA is currently unavailable, but keep an eye on scotch whisky stockists and the Laphroaig website for updates.
