Jack Daniel’s has unveiled a new limited edition expression as part of its Distillery Series Selection.
Distilled from a mash bill comprising 70% rye, 12% malted barley, and 18% corn, the rye whiskey underwent Jack Daniel’s traditional charcoal mellowing (A.K.A. The Lincoln County process) before maturation.
The whisky was matured in a new, charred American white oak barrel before undergoing a secondary, two-and-a-half-year maturation in another new barrel. As a result, the Distillery Series Selection #13 carries strong flavors of charred oak and sweetness.
Tasting notes for the new release include “blackstrap molasses, building to a finish of fresh spearmint, anise and dry baking spices with aromas of sweet smoke and burnt sugar on the nose.”
Chris Fletcher, Master Distiller at Jack Daniel’s, commented: “Our Tennessee Rye is a take on rye whiskey that is uniquely Jack Daniel’s. The 70% rye grain bill allows the whiskey to shine through with just the right amount of spiciness and boldness. We’re excited to add a limited-edition expression to our rye lineup with this release, which introduces the whiskey to a second barreling to create a profile with even more depth and character.”
The Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series #13 clocks in at 107 proof (53.5% ABV) and is available for $41.99 per 375ml bottle, exclusively in Tennessee via selected retailers and the Jack Daniel’s Distillery in Lynchburg.
