Glenmorangie Pursuit Of Passion Wine Cask Collection

Glenmorangie’s Dr Bill Lumsden has long been passionate about wine. The Pursuit of Passion Collection allowed him to experiment with finishing Glenmorangie’s highland whisky in wine casks from various European wine regions. Dr. Bill selected the casks during his travels through Europe’s wine regions many years ago. Then, once back in Scotland, he filled them with whisky and waited. Now, the whiskies are ready to showcase the result of long-term wine cask finishing.

Each whisky is aged over 25 years, and only 600 sets are available.

The whiskies are as follows:

  • Glenmorangie 29 Year Old Margaux Wine Cask Finish – Distilled in February 1995 and initially matured in bourbon casks. The whisky was transferred into red wine casks from Margaux in 2004. Margaux is a wine region in Bordeaux, France, known for producing smooth, elegant, and fragrant wines. The Glenmorangie 29 Year Old Margaux Wine Cask Finish underwent a staggering 20-year finishing period in these casks, resulting in notes of chocolate, plums, and sweet chilli.
  • Glenmorangie 28 Year Old Corton-Charlemagne Wine Cask Finish – This whisky was also distilled in 1995 and initially matured in bourbon casks, before being transferred to white Burgundy casks in 2005. These casks hail from the Corton-Charlemagne region of Burgundy. Finished for 18 years in wine casks, this whisky presents notes of jasmine, soft smoke, and clove.
  • Glenmorangie 27 Year Old Barbaresco Wine Cask – Finally, this 27 Year Old Glenmorangie was distilled in 1996 and laid down in bourbon casks. Then, Dr Bill decanted some of the whisky into selected Barbaresco wine casks, from Piedmont in Italy. This whisky was also finished for 18 years and subsequently took on the deep, rich, and complex flavors of the Italian red. Expect leather, rich spices, and eucalyptus.

The whiskies are presented in a beautiful handmade oak presentation case complete with design work emulating the regions from which the wine casks were sourced. The sides and back of the box were designed to represent the unique staves from each wine cask.

Speaking about his passions converging in this very special collection, Dr. Bill Lumsden said: “My passion for single malt whisky is perhaps only matched by my passion for fine wine. And my travels through the world’s finest vineyards have inspired many experiments with finishing whisky in wine casks.

“Of all my experiments, the whiskies in our Pursuit of Passion Wine Cask Collection are among my most prized and delicious. With exceptionally long finishes in precious casks from some of France and Italy’s most renowned wine regions, I’m sure that their complexity will delight and intrigue lovers of both whisky and wine.”
