Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Weller at Buffalo Trace

The Buffalo Trace Antique Collection (BTAC) is back for the 2024 fall season, delighting whiskey enthusiasts with its highly sought-after lineup. As one of the most iconic releases in American whiskey, the BTAC represents the craftsmanship of Buffalo Trace Distillery, the country’s oldest continuously operating distillery.

This year’s release is particularly special, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Buffalo Trace’s acquisition of the Weller brand. The collection features all five classic expressions: Eagle Rare 17-Year-Old Bourbon, George T. Stagg Bourbon, Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey, Sazerac 18-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey, and William Larue Weller Bourbon.

William Larue Weller Bourbon

This year’s William Larue Weller Bourbon showcases uncut, unfiltered wheated bourbon aged for over 12 years on the lower floors of Buffalo Trace’s rickhouses. With an entry proof of 114, it’s celebrated for its rich caramel notes, alongside hints of toffee and fruit. The release honours W.L. Weller, the pioneer of the wheated bourbon recipe.

Eagle Rare 17-Year-Old Bourbon

The Eagle Rare 17-Year-Old Bourbon continues its legacy as a standout in the collection. Distilled in the spring of 2007, it is bottled at 101 proof, paying homage to the brand’s original strength. Tasting notes highlight rye, toasted oak, and tobacco, promising a bold yet refined profile.

George T. Stagg Bourbon

Known for its powerful barrel-proof releases, this year’s George T. Stagg comes in at a staggering 136.1 proof. Aged for over 15 years, it delivers a complex profile of spice, oak, caramel, and cinnamon—a testament to Buffalo Trace’s mastery of barrel aging.

Sazerac 18-Year-Old Rye Whiskey

The Sazerac 18-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey is a tribute to New Orleans’ legendary cocktail. Aged for 18 years and five months, this year’s expression features tasting notes of dark cherry, smoke, and licorice.

Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey

Inspired by the origins of the Sazerac cocktail, the Thomas H. Handy Rye is a barrel-proof whiskey bottled at 125 proof after more than six years of aging. Expect bold spice and oak flavours, with a finish of cinnamon, pepper, and clove.

A Milestone Year for Weller and Buffalo Trace

Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley reflected on this landmark year, stating:

“William Larue Weller Bourbon shines among the Collection this year with its caramel notes and long, creamy finish. It’s fitting that this year also marks the 25th anniversary of Sazerac Company’s acquisition of the Weller brand.”

With over two decades of crafting beloved whiskey expressions, the Buffalo Trace Distillery remains committed to excellence and tradition.
