Berry Bros & Rudd, Britain’s oldest wine and spirits merchant, has unveiled the second installment in its ‘A Sense of Place ‘ collection. Coasts & Shores comprises 25 bottles of whisky hailing from the world’s most beloved coastal distilleries. The new release follows Glens & Valleys into the Berry Bros & Rudd lineup. Released in June of this year, Glens & Valleys contains whiskies distilled in the valleys and glens of Scotland.
Available starting from today (October 24th), Berry Bros & Rudd Coasts & Shores boasts 25 bottlings from 12 different distilleries. A full list of bottlings and RRPs can be found further down this article.
Berry Bros & Rudd ‘A Sense of Place’ – Coasts & Shores
The Coasts & Shores collection aims to demonstrate how coastal maturation can affect the profile of a whisky. From the briny sea spray of Islay to the coastal smoke of Smögen Distillery in Sweden, each whisky is characterized by its location as much as by the skill of the distillers.
The collection features bottlings from Scotland, Sweden, and Japan, showcasing a breadth of whisky styles from across the world.
Felix Dear, Spirits Curator at Berry Bros. & Rudd, said: “Coastal environments play an important role in shaping the flavour of some of the world’s most celebrated whiskies. The unique conditions, salty air and proximity to the sea imparts flavour profiles that set these spirits apart with unique maritime characteristics. Our 2024 Coasts & Shores collection explores these influences, offering a diverse range of expressions that capture the essence of each distillery.”
What Can You Expect From The Berry Bros & Rudd Coasts & Shores Collection?
For peat lovers, Caol Ila’s 2010 releases bring an enticing mix of maritime peat smoke balanced by fruity notes such as ripe peaches and figs. Similarly, the Williamson 2013 Moscatel and Oloroso finishes blend rich, dark fruits with treacle and bold peat, resulting in a long, warming finish.
Meanwhile, Dalmore’s 2012 Barolo Finish offers a contrasting profile, with red fruits and vanilla custard tempered by peppery spice and a velvety texture. For a coastal twist, Inchgower’s 2009 Pedro Ximénez finishes highlight dried fruits like figs and plums alongside a hint of sea spray.
