Kentucky Derby Museum Hosting Van Winkle Raffle To Help A Small Child

An Indiana father is using his personal collection of rare bourbons and help from the Kentucky Derby Museum to help save the life of his 3-year-old son.

They will be doing so with a raffle drawing, taking place Nov. 18th, and this special bourbon raffle has expanded to include three prizes valued at more than $58,000. Only 6,000 tickets will be sold, at $100 per ticket.

Three-year-old Wyatt Perdue lives with cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe.

In 2021, his father Nathan Perdue approached the Kentucky Derby Museum with the idea of raffling off his prized Pappy collection. Perdue said the hope was that by teaming up with the museum, it could bring more awareness and funding to seek a cure for the devastating disease.

And that first year, Perdue and the Kentucky Derby Museum raised more than $400,000, with the vast majority of that money going to life-saving research.

A statement from the fund-raisers noted that in the past year, the life expectancy for those living with CF increased from age 51 to age 53.

“Everyone that participated in that fund-raising initiative last year was indirectly responsible for that amazing accomplishment,” said Perdue. “So, this year we thought, how do we celebrate not only that great accomplishment, but how do we raise even more funds and more awareness?”

This year, Perdue explained, they’ve secured additional premium, rare bourbons for the raffle, and the added bourbon collections mean the raffle will have three winners. Each collection was inspected by a whiskey historian at Justins’ House of Bourbon and “dertermined to be in excellent, like new condition.”

The Perdue family noted that the ultimate goal here is that funding research through the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will help find a cure in Wyatt’s lifetime.
