A new collaboration between Ireland’s Clonakilty Distillery and Texas’ Garrison Brothers Distillery brings a new Irish single malt whiskey to market.

A statement from the two whiskey makers noted that the 7-Year-Old Irish Single Malt is a fusion of Irish whiskey and Texas bourbon, matured in ex-bourbon barrels, and finished another seven months in Garrison Bros’ Balmorhea barrels.

“The Balmorhea barrels bring a distinct finish to the whiskey compared to what we normally find from American oak,” said Oisin Mulcahy, Clonakilty’s head distiller. “This is due to the wildly different climates that exist in Texas and Clonakilty.”

The two family-run distilleries are separated by 4,500 miles and an ocean, but teamed up the single malt to marry the spirit of Irish whiskey tradition with Texas bourbon craftsmanship.

Clonakilty is a maritime distillery located alongside the coastal town of Clonakilty, in southwestern Ireland. It was founded in 2016 by the Scully family, who have farmed the coastal land for nine generations in a row.

Garrison Brothers Distillery is a small farm and ranch located in the Texas Hill Country, and the operation was the first legal bourbon distillery in Texas and one of the first outside of Kentucky to make bourbon whiskey.

The tasting notes from the collaborating distillers note that this limited edition 7-Year-Old Irish Single Malt features aromas of sea salt, vanilla and fresh cut lumber on the nose. On the palate, there are notes of banana nut, plums, spices and cherry. It has a long finish of wood, spice and vanilla.

The single malt clocks in at 58.8% ABV.

The one-time bottling is now available at select retailers throughout Texas for a suggested retail price of $69.99 for a 750ml bottle.
