The Canadian Club whisky brand is one of the many whisk(e)y offerings in the Beam Suntory stable. It has a long and honored history up north, having first been launched in 1858. Bottlings in this line up already include Canadian Club 1858, Canadian Club Reserve, and Canadian Club Classic 12 Year Old. A new expression called Canadian Club 100% Rye is now joining them here in the U.S. after a debut in Canada a few years back.
Canadian Club 100% Rye, as the name implies, is a whisky made from a full rye mash bill that’s produced by Alberta Distillers. It is a non-age statement release that’s been bottled at 80 proof after aging in three different types of barrels – brand new, white American oak barrels; once-used bourbon barrels; and Canadian whisky barrels – and blended to taste.

After debuting in Canada in 2014, this spirit has become something of an award-winner, getting high marks “from top spirit competitions and outlets such as 2014 Canadian Whisky of the Year from Whisky Advocate magazine, Sippin’ Whisky of the Year at the 2015 Canadian Whisky Awards and Gold at the 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.”

“The rye whisky category has seen significant growth over the past five years, specifically with bartenders and cocktail enthusiasts, so we made it our mission to create the right product that would satisfy their discerning palates,” said Dan Tullio, Canadian Whisky Master Ambassador at Beam Suntory, in a statement. “From the expert manufacturing process to the quality ingredients, this liquid stands above other rye whiskies on the market today. Canadian Club 100% Rye is what the label says it is. No corn. No barley. Nothing but rye.”
