How much would you be willing to spend for the ultimate in a collectable Woodford Reserve bourbon? This premium whiskey line out of Kentucky is normally known on the top shelf for its Master’s Collection releases, such as the two we just recently saw announced. Now we take a step or two further up the luxury whiskey chain with the unveiling of the Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition.
Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition, according to those behind it, is notable enough for the fact it takes Woodford Reserve bourbon and finishes it in select, ex-XO cognac casks at the historic Kentucky distillery tied to this brand. Where the high end factor really comes into play though is the fact this whiskey is then bottled in a special crystal decanter created by French luxury crystal producer Baccarat. This type of treatment, normally reserved for Scotch whisky and French cognac, is something of a first for the American whiskey category. The bottle design of this decanter is said to “evoke the iconic Woodford Reserve bottle silhouette and is engraved with both Woodford Reserve’s and Baccarat’s iconic logos.”

“We are extremely proud to announce the partnership between the world’s finest bourbon and the world’s finest crystal because both represent craftsmanship at the highest level,” said Mark Bacon, Global Brand Director for Woodford Reserve, in a prepared statement. “This partnership elevates the category of American Whiskey in the global market.”

“Baccarat is honored to be the partner of  Woodford Reserve for this important premiere in the world of American whiskey,” added Baccarat Global CEO, Daniela Riccardi. “We are proud of the work done together and of a beautiful decanter that our artisans crafted inspired by the excellence and savoir faire that both our Maisons cherish.”

Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition is bottled at 90.4 proof and presented in a Baccarat red box and includes a crystal stopper adorned with Woodford Reserve’s initials. It will initially be available in travel retail for one year starting in May 2019 and, as for the price, expect to drop $1,500 should you buy a bottle of it as you are passing through a duty free store at an airport.
