Ranger Creek Brewing & Distilling out of Texas, who we first talked about earlier this year when it released a small batch rye whiskey, is one of a rising tide of craft whiskey distillers in the Lone Star State. It now has another whiskey just released to notch in its belt, a limited edition single barrel bourbon that’s described as “a rare treat.”The new Ranger Creek .36 Single Barrel Bourbon is, according to the distillery, different in a big way compared to its popular Small Caliber Series, which takes locally distilled whiskies and ages them in small barrels for 12 to 18 months. This particular release, of which only 1,400 bottles roughly are being put out to market, draws instead from more typical big barrels, with aging times before bottling ranging from 2 years 9 months up to 3 years 8 months for the 2014 vintage, depending upon the specific barrel.

READ THE STORYThe new bourbon looks like it can be picked up at either Ranger Creek’s location in San Antonio now or one of several Spec’s liquor stores around Texas starting Saturday, Dec. 20 until bottles likely quickly run out. One store in each major state market, noted Ranger Creek, will carry about 60 bottles of the new bourbon for the initial release. These include Austin (4970 Highway 290 West), Dallas (9500 N Central Expressway, #200), Ft. Worth (2750 South Hulen Street), Houston (2410 Smith Street (@ W. Gray & McGowen)) and San Antonio (5219 De Zavala Road, Suite 101).
Each bottle, by the way, looks like it will price for around $65 (or more) and is packaged in a limited edition display box and has the barrel number and unique bottle number hand written on it, along with the age statement and vintage.
