Rock Town Sixth Anniversary BourbonArkansas, as we’ve touched upon before, isn’t exactly a whiskey distilling mecca here in the United States. That being said it is the home of Rock Town Distillery, one of the older, and more well respected, craft whiskey distilleries out there.
It was around this time last year they unveiled their 5th anniversary bourbon, which we gave a favorable review recently, and now word has just come out of their planned 6th anniversary release.
The Rock Town Sixth Anniversary Bourbon, according to the distillery, is a sour mash style, four grain bourbon which is aged a little over two years in a full size, new charred oak barrel before being bottled at 100 proof. As for that four grain mash bill, here’s how it breaks down:
  • 62.5 % Arkansas grown corn
  • 12.5% Arkansas grown wheat
  • 12.5% Arkansas grown rye
  • 12.5% malted barley

As you can see from the information provided by Rock Town, what’s particularly interesting about this straight bourbon is the use of mostly Arkansas grown grains. Will this bourbon thus convey a sense of Arkansas terroir? It should be a fascinating expression to taste.

Speaking of which, should you want to get a hold of 1 of the 514 bottles being released, you’ll initially have to get it directly from the distillery when it goes on sale there later this month as part of Rock Town’s 6th anniversary celebration. They will be offering tastings of it and also three single barrel, cask strength whiskies should you be able to make it.

Following that, I assume, you may also see bottles of it pop up at retail on a very limited basis, much like what happened quietly with last year’s anniversary release. The distillery has not officially said this, however, so it is just pure speculation at this point.
