In the lore of more recent Kentucky bourbon history sits the name Booker Noe, long associated with the Jim Beam distillery as former master distiller supreme. Noe during his time is said to have developed a signature style to tasting bourbon that later became known as the “Kentucky Chew.” It is this name that’s been given to the third release in the 2018 cycle of Booker’s Bourbon.

Booker’s Batch 2018-3 “Kentucky Chew,” according to those behind it, pays homage to Noe’s fabled tasting technique. The term, coined by a whiskey writer decades ago, speaks of a process whereby Noe “would take a sip of bourbon, work it around his mouth and then smack his lips a few times in such a way that it appeared like he was chewing on the liquid. According to Booker, this technique allowed the bourbon to coat his entire mouth, so he could assess all the nuanced flavors and finish of the whiskey.”

Specifics of this bourbon as chosen by Booker’s son and current Beam master distiller Fred Noe indicate it is a little over six years old and bottled at a rather healthy and uncut 126.7 proof. It prices for a minimum of around $70, and you’ll find some limited official tasting notes for it below for your consideration.

Booker’s “Kentucky Chew” offers a sweet nose of dried fruit and vanilla. The taste is distinctively Booker’s with a robust profile that starts off strong but finishes sweet and medium-bodied.
